Board Operator

The person running the audio console and automation during a broadcast.

A board operator (board op) runs the technical side of a broadcast — the console, automation, spots, and network feeds — making sure the right audio airs at the right time. On some shifts the host and board op are the same person; on others they are separate roles.

The board op is the last line of defense against dead air and mis-timed breaks.
