A subject gaining rapid attention across news or social media at a given moment.
A trending topic is whatever a lot of people are talking about right now — surfacing on social platforms, in search, or across news. For radio, trending topics are prime break material because the audience is already primed to care.
The challenge is speed and relevance: catching the trend while it is hot and framing it for the local audience.
